Out with the old, in with the new

With the first month of the new decade coming to an end... reflect on how you have bettered yourself. Have you tried to cut something that doesn't add goodness to your life? Have you tried adding something to your life that brings health and helps you prosper?

New Years Resolutions are quite notorious for being successful for maybe, if you are lucky, the first month of your year, in YOUR life.

More often than not, we do have good intentions to do great things...but like you, I too am guilty in starting off great and then letting those resolutions and goals fade into the abyss of New Years resolutions past.

SO... How can we make constructive changes to your life that will last?

1. Visualize: What is it that you want to achieve?

2. Make a list: put it on paper or more environmentally friendly, create a document on Word.

3. Break it down: What are the steps in which I can take, that will bring me to my goals little by little?

**It is important to note that whilst visualizing your goals you must break them down into small steps... it is easier to do many little steps than to hurdle the huge ones. The small achievements will add up and you will reach your goals whilst understanding exactly how you got there.**

4. Take Action: leave procrastination at the door. Goals do not just achieve themselves. Act on each step so that when the steps add up, you've achieved a goal.

5. Figure out your rationale: why do you want to achieve this goal?

**Most people when they understand "the why" behind things they have more of an understanding of it and when people understand they tend to invest more into whatever it may be.**

6. Plans change, which may mean that your goals change.

This is ok! Adapt and modify if need be. Go through your list and make the necessary changes.

7. Do your research.

Earth is the home to ~ 7.7 billion human beings (2019). There are many people out there who know how to achieve their specific goals. Referring to others by means of literature, documentaries, seminars or direct contact is a very useful strategy. Take things, of couse, with a grain of salt, but nonetheless broaden your horizons and inform yourself.

8. Repeat your affirmations.

Believing your have already achieved the goals and envisioning what your life will look and/or feel like. Focusing on the feelings of achieving the goal will help bring you there. My dad, whilst teaching me how to drive, would always say keep your eyes on where you want to go and your brain/body will take you there. Same thing applies to achieving your goals.

9. Failure is an essential part of success.

You are going to fail.

Instead of considering it to be a negative thing, what is important is to think of it as a positive.

FAIL= First A ttempt In Learning.

There are different outcomes from failing. It may have closed a door on that goal but opened another or it could've been your trial round where you learn from the failure and bounce back with experience gained.

“Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.” - Winston Churchill

Be strict but don't be too hard on yourself.
